Letters to the Earth is a global participatory campaign in response to the planetary crisis that launched in collaboration with Culture Declares Emergency in 2019. The public are invited to put pen to paper and write a Letter to or from the Earth, other species, people in positions of power, or future or past generations. In its first month, a thousand letters were submitted – letters of love, loss, hope and action from all walks of life and from every corner of the globe.
Contributing authors include Yoko Ono, Booker Prize winning author Ben Okri, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Laura Whitmore, Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, indigenous activists in the Amazon and Philippines, world-renowned climate scientists and policy experts, children, teachers, nurses and journalists. A collection of curated letters has been published by HarperCollins UK and US in an award-winning book, Letters to the Earth, Writing to a Planet in Crisis, introduced by Emma Thompson and illustrated by Jackie Morris. Letters continue to be written and shared online, in schools, in lockdown, in performance and in communities.
Time to Pause: Write Your Letter to the Earth
Wednesday 22nd Sept, 10am-11.30am
Letters to the Earth invites all participants of the Net Zero Festival to get creative in a special closed session to write your Letter to the Earth.
By doing so, you join other CEOs, colleagues, and the business community at large who are showing courageous leadership in their call for ambitious and urgent change.
Because what you have to say makes change possible.
A Letter to the Earth is a letter written to or from the Earth. It can also be written to or from any species, person, place or moment in time.
Writing a Letter is a way to bring all your fears, your frustrations, and your love of the earth, to process what is happening to the world, and to express your hope and vision for a better future.
This workshop offers the opportunity to come together and connect on a personal level about how the climate and ecological emergency affects all of us.
Join thousands of others who are adding their voice to the #LetterstotheEarth story worldwide.
