Net Zero Innovate: Zoom In InterviewCharles Ewen, Met Office
The Met Office is collaborating with Microsoft to build a ground-breaking new supercomputer to more accurately predict the UK’s increasingly extreme weather. Expected to be the most advanced machine of its kind dedicated to weather and the climate, it will be one of the 25 most powerful computers in the world, and twice as powerful as any other in the UK. It will also be one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable supercomputers, powered using 100% renewable energy.
In an exclusive interview with BusinessGreen, the Met Office’s Director of Technology and Chief Information Officer will explain the role and impact of the supercomputer on forecasting, and discuss their sustainability strategies and initiatives to reach net zero CO2 by 2030.
